  1. Pre- Anaesthesia Examination
    Department of Anaesthesia has a dedicated Pre-Anesthesia Clinic in Trauma Building 3rd Floor for evaluation and optimization of patient condition prior to surgery. It caters to the patients from all surgical specialties on both OPD and IPD basis. PAC clinic is open during routine OPD hours for all 6 days of the week. IPD patients are seen in the wards by the trained anesthesiologists.

     
  2. Peri-operative care
    There are 17 operation theatres where anaesthesia facilities are provided. Elective surgeries are done routinely from 9:00AM -4:00PM with two extended hour elective operation theatre from 8:00AM- 6:00PM (usually extended depending upon the completion time of the last case) for the following specialties and super-specialities.

All the Operating Rooms have pre-operative area where patients are re-evaluated. All the operating rooms are well equipped to provide -

  • Regional Anaesthesia

Emergency Services:  5 Operating Theatres are dedicated for emergency surgeries. Round the clock (24x7) OT is available for emergency surgeries of various specialities.

(Surgery/Neurosurgery/Obstetrics&Gynecology/PediatricsSurgery/Orthopedic/Trauma/ENT/Burns and Plastic Surgery etc).

Since COVID pandemic 2 Theatres are marked for COVID positive patients requiring anesthesia care (elective/emergency)

  1. Non-Operating Room Anaesthesia (NORA)

    Department of Anaesthesia provides remote anaesthesia care for following areas

     
    • ​​Modified Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
    • Radiological Procedures (MRI/CT Scan)
    • Endoscopy
       
  2. Emergency Resuscitation Team
    A team of trained anaesthesiologist and anaesthesia residents is posted round the clock, in ECS RR to attend all the emergency and resuscitation calls from Casualty and various departments and wards from the entire hospital. All the patients coming to Emergency and requiring resuscitation or intubation are managed by the Trained Anaesthesiologist in the ECS RR.

     
  3. Intensive care unit
    Department of Anaesthesia has 3 Intensive Care Units comprising of total of 18 beds.
    • Swine Flu ICU: 6 beds
    • Nephrology Renal Transplant & Post-Op Recovery (NTPR): 7 beds
    • COVID ICU: 5 beds

These ICUs cater the critically ill patients from various specialties such as post surgical patients, Orthopedics, Obstetrics & gynecology, post COVID etc.

  1. Pain and Palliative Services
    Pain Relief Clinic is functional on Thursday and Saturday in Superspeciality Block at 3rd floor in main OPD block. Pain services are provided to both OPD and IPD patients. Pain services and interventions are given for following:
    • Acute pain
    • Chronic pain
    • Palliative services
    • Pain interventions for trauma patients

All interventions for pain relief are done on inpatient basis. There are two dedicated beds in ECS RR for the same. Department of Anaesthesia has Ultrasound machine, Radiofrequency ablation machine, Ozone generator and C-arm to facilitate the various pain relief interventions.

  1. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
    Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Unit is an integral part of Department of Anaesthesia for many decades. There is a monoplace hyperbaric oxygen chamber to provide hyperbaric treatment to both outpatient and inpatients in Room no 13B (Old building). Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is given to patients with osteoradionecrosis, sensorineural deafness, non-healing ulcers, diabetic foot, head injury, chronic wounds, avascular necrosis, cerebral palsy, mucormycosis etc.

  • Various academic CMEs/Refresher courses/Conferences are being conducted on National level by Department of Anaesthesia for teaching & training of post graduate students of Anaesthesia.
  1. Teaching programs
    • Postgraduates-There are 34 seats for Anaesthesia postgraduate recognized by MCI. Academic teaching and skill training programs are conducted for them as per university and NMC guidelines
    • Undergraduates- BLS training and academic teaching is conducted by anaesthesia department as per the NMC guidelines.
       
  2. Administrative responsibilities: Faculty from the Department of Anesthesia have been playing a pivotal role in the administration of Hospital by being member of

    • Procurement and maintenance work for Anesthesia Department and other critical areas of hospital as well
