Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital is 1500 bedded major hospital of the city. This hospital is the only Government hospital catering to the population of New Delhi and Central District. It also caters to a large population of North and West Delhi and State. This is the only hospital which is having a Nursing Home for CGHS beneficiaries. It has been designated as a definitive care centre for the treatment of Ex-Prime Ministers of India. Due to its location near to parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhawan, VIP Colonies, Railway Station etc., this hospital is engaged in providing medical care to VIP’s as well as public at large.

The   Hospital has 25 specialties which cover all the major specialities like General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedic, G yane & Obst. . Paediatrics, Eye, ENT, Psychiatry, Dental, Radiology, Skin, Laboratory Services. Physiotherapy and super specialties like Neuro-Surgery, Cardiology, Burns & Plastic, Gastroenterology, Paediatric Surgery, Nephrology and Neurology etc.
The Hospital is a center for post Graduate training to MD/MS/DNB/MCh students of Guru Gobind Singh lndraparstha University and National Board of Examinations in various specialities & MBBS course is running since 2019.

The paediatric Surgery Unit of the department of surgery was started in August 1994 subsequent to the joining of a Paediatric Surgeon (ad-hoc surgical specialist grade II). It functioned with seven beds and two afternoon OPDs. Surgery was being done only twice a week, that too only in the morning  half OT. No separate emergency services existed. It remained no-functional from May 1995 — March 1996 as the then incumbent left the job. Again, after paediatric Surgeon joined, it was restarted on 21 .03.l996 with the same bed strength and facilities.

This department of Super Specialty Paediatric Surgery was made independent in 2008 and 04 M.Ch seats were sanctioned in 2010 and the M.Ch course was begun in 2013. MCI recognition was obtained in 2016-17. In 2020 MCh seats increased to 05 students each year and recognized by MCI, affiliated with GGSIP University, New Delhi. Gradually Department grown and progressed in different dimensions like patient care facilities, academics and other activities. The present Pediatric Surgery  department is well equipped with latest operative instruments for open and laparoscopic surgeries , Urodynamic laboratory. All type of Neonatal and Pediatric Surgical Procedures are done in Department. Antenatal Surgical counseling clinic running in the Department since June 2015. One faculty is traind in Liver transplant & planning to do it with  transplant team.
