The Department of Dermatology provides optimal  and evidence based care to all patients seeking treatment at the hospital. The department caters to a large number of OPD patients (second highest among all the Out patient departments). With the present faculty strength we have lowest faculty patient ratio in the hospitaland a average of 400 patients are seen every day

Patient awareness activities are carried out regularly and patient education posters have been put across the OPD area to make patients and caregivers aware of various skin diseases.

The Department caters to two national health programs – National leprosy elimination program and National STD control program (NACO). Our faculty also caters to patients in many CGHS dispensaries, President’s house and Parliament annex. Many special clinics are also operational to provide personalized and special care for the respective skin disorders.

We have a state-of-the-art Minor OT complex with three procedure rooms. All minor procedures are performed on the same day. The OT also has a spacious patient waiting area and integrated sister station. The department has two US FDA approved laser machines - QS NdYAG and Fractional CO2.

Teaching activities: Department of Dermatology takes in 5 postgraduates per year. We have a detailed teaching program for post graduates involving case discussions, presentations in form of seminars, short talks and journal clubs, and practical teaching in OPD and ward rounds. Feedback and assessments are undertaken by faculty to encourage residents to improve upon their state of knowledge and reduce awareness and aim for higher goals. High quality research is done by residents for mandatory thesis during first two years of residency.

MBBS students rotate in Dermatology for mandatory clinical postings. Regular lectures cum demonstration and other teaching activities are conducted by faculty and Senior residents for the students. Internship posting includes well thought out essential skills to cater to patients as a family doctor.

Research and publications: The faculty also conduct high quality research, and the department currently has the highest H-index in the institute. (https://rmlh.irins.org/) Many funded and non-funded research projects are conducted by various faculty members. Department faculty have authored many top selling Dermatology books in the country, read widely by residents, faculty and practitioners across the country.
