Unani Medical Centre at Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi
The government of India has long been seriously concerned with the health of the people as well as that of the nation. Accordingly, the government has envisaged a productive and participatory role for the various India systems of medicine including Unani Medicine in the National Health policy. The Department of Indian systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H)- now Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga, & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH),Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, in accordance with a decision of the ministry to introduce Indian systems of Medicine in some of the central Government Allopathic hospital in the capital, established Ayurveda and Homoeopathic clinic atSafdarjung Hospital and a Unani clinical centre atDr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi. The objectives of establishing these centres were to study the acceptability of India systems among the patients attending the modern allopathic hospitals and also feasibility of running an AYUSH clinic in a modern hospital.
The Unani medicine centre, established with the collaboration of the Dr RML Hospital, New Delhi in the year 1998 in the OPD main building. This centre provides Unani treatment in the General Out –Patient Department (GOPD)and also runs a Specialty Clinic for chronic ailments for which there is no satisfactory treatment in other systems of medicine. The Unani treatment is provided to the patients free of cost.
